Issue date

Minister of Health, Dr Ayesha Verrall has announced around 6,100 general practitioners, community nurses, and kaiāwhina in New Zealand will receive pay rises averaging 8% to address pay disparities with hospital nurses. The pay increases will be funded by a $200 million fund aimed at reducing wage gaps across the healthcare system. The government's goal is to ensure that nurses with equivalent skills and experience receive comparable compensation, regardless of their specific healthcare setting. This investment will benefit practice nurses, kaiāwhina, and healthcare professionals in various areas, including Family Planning, mental health, telehealth, and community care services.
